The Arrow is dead, long live the Arrow. The Arrow trailer for the final season hit the interwebs today. also news broke about a spinoff series in the works, specifically who will star in it. The trailer is short and we don’t see much beyond flashes of what to expect. Still, we get peeks of familiar faces. We see the Arrowverse’s version of Jericho and Willa Holland’s Thea Queen back in action. The narration from Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen talks about his certain death and his desire to safeguard his loved ones.

We also see some of those loved ones kicking ass, including Katherine McNamara’s Mia Smoak-Queen. Mia is the grown-up daughter of Oliver and Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards who may really not be coming back for a final season cameo). She will be the centerpiece of the new green Arrow spinoff series. CW hopes to replace Arrow with this show, also staring Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy. A backdoor pilot for the new spinoff series will be a part of the shortened final season.

Breaking Down the Trailer for the final season of Arrow

The first trailer for the final season of Arrow begins with a scene that looks ripped from the first season, showing Oliver and Colin Donnell’s Tommy standing in a club, possibly the one where Oliver held his welcome home party in the first season. We also see Rila Fukushima’s Katana again and Lexa Doig’s Talia al Ghul briefly. many interesting, we see Oliver back in the Queen mansion, a location we’ve not seen because around the third season of the show. numerous theories and leaks suggest that Oliver will travel through time with the help of his new cosmic best buddy The Monitor. If so, this discusses how he is able to see Tommy again or why he encounters Katana or his mother. Though, worth noting, we don’t actually see Susanna Thompson reprising her role as Moira Queen, but we do hear her voice.

What else we see in the trailer for the final season of Arrow is mostly action in particular locales. We see Oliver in full green Arrow regalia combating some folks in what appears to be a lab. We also see Jericho’s army of Deathstrokes in what looks like the police station but could be somewhere else. fans get a quick peek of Mia in the future, fully embracing her legacy with a bow and arrow. In fact, it is during this part of the show focusing on Mia, set in 2040, that will serve as the backdoor pilot for the proposed green Arrow spinoff series.

Backdoor Pilot for Arrow Spinoff series will feature Both Black Canaries

Along with the trailer for the final season of Arrow, Deadline broke the news that a new green Arrow series could follow this one. instead of Oliver Queen, however, it will be the Arrowverse original character Mia Smoak under the hood. joining her in the series will be the Laurel Lance and Dinah Drake versions of the Black Canary. In the 2040 narrative last season on Arrow, Dinah Drake led The Canaries, an all-female vigilante group. Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy will reprise these roles for the new series, and beyond that we don’t much about what to expect. However, this is the Internet and we’re talking about superheroes, so let’s engage the speculation Engine™.

It is unlikely that the new green Arrow spinoff series will take place in 2040, and I assume the backdoor pilot will address that. numerous fans didn’t like the somewhat dystopic future of star City in 2040, mostly because it implies that Oliver Queen’s mission to save his city failed. because time travel shenanigans are a regular part of the Arrowverse, it’s my bet that Mia Smoak time-travels to our present day. Her mission will be to avoid whatever happened in her past that created the star City of her present. This way, the character can be paired with both Black Canaries at their current ages. because Oliver Queen will likely be out-of-the-picture, it will be up to Mia to carry on the mantle of the green Arrow. It also opens up opportunities for both Emily Bett Rickards and Stephen Amell to guest-star on the new series.

The final season of Arrow looks epic and It’s All about the Crisis

The crisis on unlimited Earths crossover this year seems like the Arrowverse’s attempt to duplicate the success of Avengers: Infinity war and Endgame for their shared universe.  Bringing in people like Burt Ward and Tom Welling gives the crossover that epic feel. Though, one Smallville alum won’t be joining the event. Michael Rosenbaum tweeted he declined to return to his role as Lex Luthor. He said that that because the CW’s plans for how his version of Lex would be used in the crossover were unclear, he couldn’t commit. He also explicitly said the networkdidn’t offer him enough money. Rosenbaum’s acting credit reports are sparse because Smallville but he’s found a second profession as a podcaster.

Still, the crossover we’re going to get promises to be an incredible, Herculean effort for five hours of television. because the final season of Arrow is just ten episodes, it will likely focus on wrapping up the emotional arcs of its characters and setting the crisis plot into motion. Though, given how much the trailer for the final season of Arrow focuses on Oliver Queen’s death, I think it’s safe to say that Oliver somehow survives. Of course, this is a comic book story, so even if he dies in the show, there’s always sci-fi magic to bring him back for appearances in the spinoff series.
